Escape from Projekt Riese is a solo/co-op narrative campaign game of tactical combat set in the horrific zombie plague of World War Two. It is 1943, the location, a secret underground Nazi base somewhere under the Owl Mountains. Your heroes are the survivors of a allied strike team, fighting to complete their crucial mission. Rendezvous with, and extract the spy, the eccentric genius and the resistance cell who have aided them. Then, on the way out, blow everything all to hell. The stakes – a cure for the zombie plague and a chance to finally tip this war in the favour of the free world. Your heroes must work together to find the best path, each scenario giving them options on which way to go next.

Escape from Projekt Riese is a choose your own adventure style game. A player's choices determine the fate of their heroes, for better or worse.

The game plays out over a series of linked scenarios, a campaign with several different outcomes. Results and events in each Campaign scenario affect the start of the next, creating an ongoing and evolving story.

💀THE MISSION
Escape from Projekt Riese takes you to Festungsandlage Nr 8, a hidden underground complex where twisted Nazi science seeks to unlock and weaponize the secrets of the zombie plague. In these labyrinthine chambers beneath a Templar fortress, the products of Ahnenerbe experimentation and the newly risen dead, hungering for fresh bodies to add to their ranks, stalk the halls. You are in charge of whether your heroes survive or perish.

Your choices and tactical skills will be tested along with the ingenuity of your heroes. The survival of each of your unique combat specialists depends upon your ability to conserve resources and exploit the zombies' weaknesses. You will need to choose your tactics wisely; sometimes stealth is more important than firepower.

You may fail the first attempt at escape but with experience and proven tactics, you will advance towards the victory the free world needs. ​

💀 THE PLAN
Once you have learned the rules, all you need to play is contained within the Scenario book, character sheets and punched tokens. You can play solo against the AI or team up with a friend to battle it together in Co-op mode.

The Escape from Projekt Riese Scenario book is coil bound so it can lie flat on your table as a physical play surface. With the scenario description on the left and the corresponding map on the right, your game will take about a minute to set up. You play directly in the book on the right-hand map.

As you open doors, new threats, and assets will be revealed. Each scenario has primary and secondary objectives. Your characters have unique specialized skills and will gain experience to unlock their abilities and assure success.

Now enter the lands of the undead and prepare to fight for your life.

💀 WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT from ESCAPE FORM STALINGRAD Z

Escape from Projekt Riese offers over 40 new maps and scenarios, 9 new heroes, new weapons, skill tree, zombie types, terrain, gear, NPC rules and most importantly an entire new story. We spent almost a year writing the new story to make it as deep and interesting as possible.



Whereas this can be used as a stand-alone game, it’s an expansion of Escape From Stalingrad Z, which I went all in for so, I couldn’t pass this up. And of course, the real cool part of this pledge level was, it comes with the four expansion miniatures sets that I missed out on in the Stalingrad Z game (see them starting at the fifth post, down, here).

A lot of goodies in that one, and cool you play right in the book itself. Are the cutout figures for the basic game and the minis a stretch goal?

For this second game, there were different pledge levels, that started with more basic components, which increased to more advanced components the higher you paid 

…this one started with a Print ‘N Play and then a Travel Set, which both uses simple round disc counters, called, Character Markers, which you played on the scenario books’ maps, and the only “standees” (cardboard units that sit vertically in a plastic base) being the doors. The latter set comes in a pocket folder.

Next came the Box Set, which had everything from the previous pledge levels… but then also provided 34 standees for the zombies and heroes, four miniatures for four heroes, four punch boards, extra unit counters, character dashboards, and 3 special dice (d12s) and 4 status dice.

Next came the Deluxe Set, which is what I got, that has all of the above components, that has 28 plastic miniatures, and the answer to your question   …also adds a miniatures box with foam storage, increases the character dashboards to 9, upgrades from the folder to a custom slip case, and pegs for the punch boards. So again, everything from the previous pledge level sets in this one… you basically get all four versions of the game by this level… great for all out gaming, or taking on a trip.

This game didn’t have the Master Set, like Stalingrad Z…which gave metal minis! I’m not really sure what those metal minis are yet, though… they may be fancier (metal) duplicates of plastic minis on that game. The other cool thing here is, both are stand-alone, but of course can be combined, I’m sure somehow.

There’s a lot of side content too, that’s downloadable from the Raybox Games website, like additional campaigns and player aids/charts. They really go all out on these products. And I like how you can buy into the system on the cheap… but of course, buying in on the Kickstarter platform gets you those awesome Stretch Goal content!
