Man, I really love everything about this one! I’d kept coming across this on Facebook, over and over and over again…and it kept sucking me in every single time. The concept of just way cool, fast play, compact, and right up my wheelhouse for otherworldly Nazi Zombie gaming…Just Coolness x 1000!
So why the fascination for me?
Well, first, when I owned a PlayStation2 years back, I adored a game called, “Wolfenstein” that was basically. Nazis against Zombies… kinda an Indiana Jones meets the Mummy kinda thing! It was fascination. It had such an influence on me that I later bought Lock ‘N Load Publishing’s, “Nuklear Winter ‘68”, which again, pitted Nazis against Zombie-ish unknowns called the Black Hand. So it was a theme that moved me.
Second, I’ve been seeing a Star Wars miniatures game where you move miniature figures on a board with doors much like you see in this game. And I git into Mike Lambo book games, and got to see that having a game contained within a book is way cool (though his are super simplistic)… that led to my tiles version of Lambo’s, “Ghosts of the Jungle”, my playing with miniatures.
…things have been kinda leading this way in a sort of way. The pledge campaign ended successfully, and somehow I held back…until this week, when I got notification of Late Pledges being accepted! As Scoobie Doo would say, “Roh Roh!”. The final hook set. I pledged!
As you will see from the link below, there are several pledge levels, starting at a mere $30-ish UDSs for thr simplest game with the rule/play book and Standees/counters, all the way up to about $500. Ahhhh, yeah, I got the $500! THE most I’ve EVER paid for a game!
…that Master-level contains everything I was going to go with in that next level down, as I thought even that level was just so damned expensive …at about $180 USD! You’ll see these contents in the pledge level description below…
…but, in for a penny, in for a pound! There are several great exclusives in the Master set that I knew I’d regret not getting; and the items with the set do average up to the more expensive price. I’ve a little nest egg from my separation benefits (leave not used, basically) that I’d been holding in the wings for just such a juicy find. What the heck!
For full details on all the levels, see here.
Welcome to Escape from Stalingrad Z a game of grim history as seen through the cracked lens of the supernatural.
Escape from Stalingrad Z is a 1 to 3 player solo/coop/versus narrative campaign game of tactical combat set in the horrific zombie plague of World War II. It has many features that separate it from most miniatures games.
The game takes just 1 minute to set up, has a very compact play area (basically one open book), takes 20 to 40 minutes to play each scenario and is designed with a story matrix making it a true "Move your own adventure."
Regarding PLAYER count. The game plays true solo with a very good AI that is simple to implement. With two players you can play CO-OP or Versus. In CO-OP each player takes control of one or two characters. In Versus mode second or third player is the Zombie Master, controlling the zombies actions.

ESCAPE FROM STALINGRAD Z
💀Welcome player to grim history as seen through the cracked lens of the supernatural…
💀HOW TO CHOOSE
Escape from Stalingrad Z is a solo/coop campaign game of tactical combat which is set in the horrific zombie plague of World War Two. The year is 1942 and the city is Stalingrad. Your survivors are veteran soldiers fighting to stave off the zombie hordes in a war-torn wasteland while finding a way to escape from the decimated city. They must work together to find the best path, each scenario giving them options on which way to go next.
The player's choices determine the fate of their heroes.
The game plays out over a series of linked scenarios that form a campaign. Each previous scenario in the Campaign will affect the start of the next, creating an ongoing story.
💀HOW TO SURVIVE
Escape from Stalingrad Z will take you to the most brutal battles the world has ever witnessed. Here in this forsaken place, the unquiet dead stalk the battlefields and hunger for fresh bodies to add to their ranks. You are in charge of whether your heroes survive or perish.
Your choices and tactical skills will be tested along with the ingenuity of your survivors. Low ammunition, wounds, lack of food and the bitter cold are your enemies as much as the zombies. The survival of each of your unique combat specialists depends upon your ability to conserve resources and exploit the zombies' weaknesses. You will need to choose your tactics wisely; sometimes stealth is more important than firepower.
You may fail the first try at escape but with experience and proven tactics, each attempt will bring you closer to achieving victory.
💀 HOW TO PLAY
Once you have learned the rules, all you need to play is contained within the Scenario book, character sheets and punched tokens. You can play solo against the AI or team up with a friend to battle it together in CooP mode. Also available to play is Versus mode where one of the players takes on the role of the Zombie Master.
The book is coil bound so it can lie flat on your table as a physical play surface. With the scenario description on the left and the corresponding map on the right, your game will take less than a minute to set up. You play directly in the book on the right-hand map.
As you open doors, new threats will be revealed. Each scenario has primary and secondary objectives. Your characters have unique specialized skills and will gain experience to advance their abilities and assure success.
Now enter the lands of the undead and prepare to fight for your life.
