July 1918 German Offensive Gniesenau. The Germans breakthrough along the La Matz River. Here a squad of advancing Germans run into a squad of French infantry being rushed to the front. Rules, One Hour Skirmish Wargames by John Lambshead.

Sweet! I love seeing your miniatures, especially in battle! Are those the terrain fixtures you made upon old CD’s? …I still marvel at the brilliance in that! I really need to look into that ruleset.

They are a little on the small side for 28's as I made them for 15's. Not to worry though I have plenty of old CD's for repurposing. As you can see I put some of the smallest trees on hills just to make them look a little bigger!

The Germans try the old bums rush on the ruins but it fails. It is a fast easy game for miniatures. Perfect for the Dad that doesn't have much time to game, hint, hint Scott. First time through I played it in 90 minutes. You can set this game up and play a couple scenarios in an evening I would think and that includes take down. As for the game after the six turns the French controlled one ruins and the small orchard, the French had two KIA. The Germans controlled one ruin also but with four KIA I called the game for the French. Now to come up with another scenario for tomorrow night.

Love it! Your DOI looks great, too!
Forgive my memory here… on the CD disk terrain, are the walls foamboard covered with something? And the ruble, what’s it made from and how?
And I’m curious on the trees… how do you have them mounted to the ground material. Or do you? I had trouble with similar back on the old Oil for Panzers A&AM game I hosted many moons ago… I used blue tack poster putty.

These walls are balsa wood sheet I had around covered in light weight spackle. The smaller trees are picture hanging wire twisted into shape, the wire at the bottom are just spread out like roots and super glued into place. The big trees are old RR pieces I mounted on washers. Groundwork is just fine sand and little pebbles you find along the road where water washes down.

Groundwork is just fine sand and little pebbles you find along the road where water washes down. Nice! I love the washers idea for the trees… just enough weight to use on their own, or a little blue tack poster putty of needed; I did the latter, but even with that on the flimsy plastic bases the railroad scenery trees have, a gentle hand bump would tend to knock some over if the “leafing” was too broad and heavy. Sand is always a great choice… plenty outside, but I’ve also used fine sand bought at the craft store, as there was less detritus in it. I also like the idea of placing the home made trees (the picture hanging wire ones) in bases…I actually hadn’t thought of that and the advantage of being able to superglue it to the base. Coverage atop and biggity-baggity-boo! …you’re all set! Nice!!!

Tonight the Germans will be attacking the French HQ. There will be 9 Germans attacking 6 well dug in French soldiers. The Germans will be moving through fairly open terrain, if any German wants to get into grenade range they will have to do it with no cover.

The French command stand. They will not be included as combatants in this one but the old Colonel will have a morale strength of 3. I also see I forgot to paint their belt buckles, but I have noticed a couple other things I want to work on anyway so what's one more thing.

The soft cover hats are AMAZING! …the crossed braiding is dynamite. And that does appear to be a fearsome task against the French.

The French are dug in well, so far just two wounded French and those have returned to duty. For the Germans three KIA. Viva la France!

Glad you are enjoying the pictures and action. Well, the Germans lost their turns end morale check calling off their attack. Although I may play it through to see what happens. 0 KIA for the French and 3 for the Germans. I don't think I was aggressive enough with the Germans, however the French initiative draws were landing them a lot of action points.
