The battle results seem pretty realistic to me… zoiks. You need some Flames of War cotton smoke!

These walls are balsa wood sheet I had around covered in light weight spackle. The smaller trees are picture hanging wire twisted into shape, the wire at the bottom are just spread out like roots and super glued into place. The big trees are old RR pieces I mounted on washers. Groundwork is just fine sand and little pebbles you find along the road where water washes down. Was just rereading this thread… love the action! I forgot to ask at the time… on the cd-based terrain, I see you use fine sand and then painted… how do you attach the sand to the cd, white glue? Or do you build up the terrain with spackle? Ive been trying to figure out how to affix spackle to plastic or wood… one person wrote that you spread a coat of CA glue frost, and then the spackle atop…not sure if that works,

On the cd base I scratch the cd up with coarse sandpaper then use white glue and sprinkle on fine sand.
I have never tried applying spackle to plastic but if Were to try it I would rough up the plastic first with sandpaper, as for putting it on wood I just applied it with my finger tip. It does slide around and can be a bit difficult. I have never tried it with white glue but may next time, although I would think it would only make the surface more slippery.
I have used white glue and fine sand to make wall texture, it does work good with fine sand, you have to keep it flat to dry so gravity doesn't do it's thing though and this of course adds to the build time.
On spackle. I'm talking about Light Weight spackle that comes in a little plastic tub already to go, not the heavy weight stuff you mix up yourself for bigger projects.

Thanks on that description… I just read about the scratching up the cad surface last night, and it makes perfect sense. And on the light spackle, that’s the same type I’ve used with my minis, and it’s great stuff. I’ve wondered about MiliPut (sp?) putty… nasty stuff but effective in model kits.
