From Apostrophe Games, these 3.11" x 3.66" Large Blank Square Tiles (79mm x 93mm) come with 20 high quality, ultra thick blank, square chit tiles, perfect for creating your own boardgames. I would say the best method for designing the artwork for your boardgame on these tiles would be with use of permanent ink pens with permanent markers or Artist paints. Copic markers would also work great! With both of those mediums, you could use the tiles without much worry of smudging, wear, or fading. If you use other mediums such as colored pencil or pastels, for instance, you’d need to protect the tiles with a finish coat, most commonly a artist’s fixative (spray can delivery) or similar. Price as of this posting: $12.99

This reminds me I should have some GHQ 3 inch hexes around somewhere. Although the ones you show would be better for drawing on.

This reminds me I should have some GHQ 3 inch hexes around somewhere. Although the ones you show would be better for drawing on. As an update, I did end up ordering these and yes, the surface is very nice for drawing on. I’m not sure how well they would hold up to super wet media, like watercolors or acrylics, without warping: I’m not sure they are thick enough to withstand a lot of water absorption… I do plan to try watercolors (too hard to draw with ink pen on acrylics). I have a bunch of Copic Markers (mass for high-end illustrations), which blend better than regular markers, so that will be my first attempts. I like that they are white, too — this makes for easier, light color layers without a darker background (such as card that is gray).
