It’s a looong time (too much!!!) from the last time I wrote about my project, now I’m working with Carlo Amaddeo (WBS Games) on my modern air combat game called Fast-Movers ( I wonder if the dash is correct and/or more appealing…).
I wrote a similar bot system for Carlo’s "Winged Victory" game's automatic pilots to allow solo and co-op play.
This is a schematic account of a Fast-Movers’ bots (A.I. 2.0) flight test.
In the previous test I had easily defeated a bot of the old version with my F-16 and this time I tried to confront two Mig-29 piloted by two veteran bots. All the aircraft involved in the test were armed with the internal cannon and two all aspect infrared missiles.
The two bots entered side by side on the other side of the map and I flew towards them fearlessly.
The leader of the enemy formation made a slip approaching his wingman and we practically crossed paths in very little space. I pulled my F 16 in a vertical climb rolling to position myself behind them and the Migs opened up turning: I found myself having to choose which one to follow and I dedicated myself to the wingman who was closer. Unfortunately, having lost a lot of speed with my maneuver at the Mig it was enough to turn without changing altitude opening the distance creating many difficulties in setting a chase trajectory.
After a turn, however, I managed to launch a missile, the Mig climbed tight, my missile cannot follow it losing itself in the blue ... gosh!
I continued to follow him but in the meantime the leader with a turn Schneider had returned to us ... I tried to quickly eliminate the wingman with my second missile that this time managed to intercept the plane but, between countermeasures and maneuvering the target only managed to inflict damage without any effect on its flight capabilities ... tough luck !!!!
At this point I tried to switch on the leader because he was in a more vulnerable position but, after chasing each other in a couple of turns to 360 (without either of us were able to attack the other plane) the wingman again interfered, I made a very tight turn to evade him but the leader managed to shoot down my F-16 with the internal cannon.
I am very satisfied because this new version of the artificial intelligence of bots would seem to work better than the previous version.
I can't wait to "train" the bots also in the ground air attack.
