Just ordered this old gem a few ministers ago from GeekMarket. $30 USD, unpunched. I first got into wargaming through a workmate at a company I worked for in the early 1980’s, with the game Panzer Leader, by Avalon Hill. Among other games, including Leader’s sister game, “Panzer Blitz”, he’d also brought in this AIW game for me to look at. I didn’t realize it at the time but, AIW was the next generation of the Leader/Blitz generation games and fixed some of the minor issues with those games. Well, 40 years later, I’m coming back full circle with acquiring this game!
"Now you can re-fight the battles that determined the fate of nations. Victories that strike like lightning, if you can win them--like the victories of Israeli arms in 1956 and 1967. Battles that were mammoth struggles for crossroads and passes and battles that were pinprick raids. The military forces of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Syria are yours to command--can you lead them to victory in the battles that shaped the Middle East today?"
Twenty-four different game situations, tactical-level tank warfare, and a customizable map make up the flavor of the game. The map is in four pieces, double-sided, allowing you to create over 100 potential map areas (the Suez Canal and the West Bank are represented, along with other landmarks). Rules include (but are not limited to) roadblocks, minefields, electronic warfare, bore-sighting, and firing while moving.
This tactical level game includes the following scenarios:
Kalkiliah (October 10, 1956)
Bir Gifgafa (November 2, 1956)
Rafid (January 1973)
Tel Maschara (October 11, 1973)
Botzer (October 16, 1973)
Rafa (June 5, 1967)
Jenin (June 6, 1967)
Jenin (Might-Have-Been)
Abu Agheila (June 6, 1967)
Irbid (September 24, 1970)
Ras Sudar (October 14, 1973)
Shovach Yonim (October 6, 1973)
Lituf (October 6, 1973)
Egyptian Airmobile Attack (October 6, 1973)
El Al (October 7, 1973)
Kuneitra (October 7, 1973)
El Firdan (October 8, 1973)
Mazrat Beit Jan (October 11, 1973)
Chinese Farm (October 16, 1973)
Deversoir (October 17, 1973)
Fayid (October 18, 1973)
Marjayou (some time in the future)
Tasa (some time in the future)

The game has always had high marks for design and playability. I’m not the best schooled on desert warfare, but this may be the title to help me with that! It’s way Old School in map and counter design, but that simplicity is still something I enjoy a great deal.
I’m looking forward to finally owning this one — maybe it’s time to dig out Leader and Blitz again!
