So this happened Friday! My wife Karen says after an appointment, hey, how about stopping in that antique store in such and such a place. I actually love antique store shopping so …Yeah! Well, as I’m looking at a pool cue set, she says, hey, there are some games over here. I stroll over expecting to see family games, which I did… but then my eyes drifted to a low shelf and this is what I find!!! Three big Avalon Hill games, The Russian Campaign, Caesar: Epic Battle of Alesia, and 1914; and then at another dealer’s stall, Luftwaffe!
Luftwaffe, which was one of the first few games a friend at a place I worked first introduced me to in wargaming, was one I never picked up of those games he had brought in too show me (…the ones I did buy were Panzer Leader/Blitz and Fortress Europa) and I always regretted letting Luftwaffe pass by me in the days when these were sold in stores, but am glad to finally have a copy! It has a split corner and smells real old, but is otherwise unpunched and in great shape. I haggled the price down to $18 cash.
The Russian Campaign. An early version that I’m glad to add to the collection! Counters punched, but in these interesting plastic cases that I found out were what HO Train model people figures are sold in. The maps is in great shape and though showing it’s age, is in great shape. Even though I brought the fairly recent Cpmpass Games designer edition, I could not pass this one up at $20. (…I see where they are fetching up to a couple hindered plus on the online market in this condition).
Caesar: Battle of Alecia. I never saw this one, but it looks fun! Unpunched and in great shape for its age. $40. (…seen for about a hundred on the online market).
1914. Again, never saw this one but great shape and the map is Awesome!!! $24. (…seen for about a hundred on the online market).
An expensive haul, but I think I did well on the prices. I love the older games and am happy to rescue these.
