Crummy picture I know but wanted to show how nicely decals can spiffy up a tank commanders visor. Tamiya decals on an Academy tank commander figure.

Thanks for posting that… very cool. Was it tricky getting the decal in place? …I imagine tweezers were very much necessary Great painting on the face in particular…looks like a lot of time went into that.

Very fiddly stuff Em. Especially the eagle. I usually use the point of my #11 blade to get it into final position. Tamiya still uses an excess of carrier film around the decal itself so you have to cut close to the decal. Then when decal floats free it will usually stick to the tip of my blade and I place it like that. And thanks for noticing the face, probably the best one I have done to date. Now to remember how I did it. I fiddled around for three evenings getting it to this point.

Decals always get me nervous. Getting lifelike hues and shadows on faces are such a difficult task… the contours of the face are so intricate. Getting it right makes the figure look alive. I struggle with flesh tones and shadows. When I see someone nail it like this, it’s some of the best inspiration to keep at it.

God but I hope I can remember how, and improve on, painting faces. They have been my weakest point for decades now.

Thanks mate! But it's been 12 years now since I painted that Italian tanker.
