Front line after turn 1. This is a very easy game to get into. Germans in a tough spot around Narva.

Situation around Riga. Germans don't have much wiggle room. The CRT, all step loses, the only side that can retreat are the Germans, they can retreat one hex and save a step lose. Keeps it simple.

Soviets move first in all turns. Here they begin to move through a hole knocked in the line last turn. Northern Latvia just below the Estonian border. The Russians have a victory point on one of these Baltic Island, the Kreigsmarine lands the 215th Inf. Div. A move I have never done in an Eastern Front game before.

With a "Stand Fast" random event order pulled for the Germans for turn two, this Panzer Battalion didn't really stand a chance.

Tightening the noose around Riga. Both sides have naval assets in the area. These naval units not only transport units they also provide column shifts when used on attack or defense.

That’s a gorgeous game, too! I love simple counter factors, and that step loss mechanic is indeed, awesome…nice and simple, as you say. Do naval assets serve as a support gunfire in land battles? …and/or just against other naval units? What are the hex symbols on the map… fortifications?

The naval units can conduct offensive or defensive fire support onto coastal hexes. The naval units do not battle each other, just support ground units in coastal hexes or transport ground units by sea movement. Yup! Hex symbols are fortifications. The rules call them Fortified Areas.
