Now that I’ve retired, it’s time to move forward from now-and-then tinkering with art (such as sketching and watercolor explorations), to some hardcore efforts. It’s been four decades since I stood at an easel, for instance, and that needs to change towards serious time at the canvas. I have no idea where my skill set is but, that doesn’t really matter — I just need to start painting again and let it lead when it’ll lead.
Today, I started to research paints. OMG…sticker shock. I had to remind myself that the last time I bought Artist paints was, yeah, four decades ago, at four decades ago prices. But then I quickly reminded myself that, all hobbies are expensive and to just suck it up. Fortunately for me, most of my old buying outlets are still around and I know how to find deals.
The cool thing on all this is, once I moved away from the stress and exhaustion of the work$Life environment (yes, that dollar sign was intentional), the pilot light that was barely burning instantly rose in temperature and heat. Old nuts and bolts that used to rattle around my cranium are once again rattling; I am getting the burn again.
First up will be a little sketching in the outdoors. The weather is quickly warming and I’ll be able to get outdoors anywhere, anytime I want now. I haven’t felt this feeling of freedom in a very long time.

That's very exciting! I can't wait to see what you churn out.
This post also makes me think about what my brain will start doing after I retire. I'm already inspired to work on non-work projects all the time, including writing, music, and gaming. I can only imagine how productive I'll be then.

I'm already inspired to work on non-work projects all the time, including writing, music, and gaming. I can only imagine how productive I'll be then. Then you’re already ahead of the curve, my friend! I’m glad to see this!!! …the majority (almost to exclusivity) of people I know PAIN over the thought of retirement, not to mention actually pulling the trigger on it. And many go nuts after a very short time after retiring. The reason is the same in both cases: They have NO hobbies or interests outside of work! That tanked my brother and brother-in-law as two examples, and lots of other people I know. It’s sad. Personally, I’ve only been retired a week and a half now, and every day, I’ve had things to do; and in fact, have multiple things I am either doing, or thinking about doing. That’s not just a coincidence, or short-term thing… I’ve cultivated several hobbies (I can think of a dozen right off the bat, and there are plenty more!) over the years, and I am sure there’s a couple waiting to be discovered! I have to remember to rest, hahaha! And yes, I’ll be glad to post my stuff

I found my two favorite sketchbooks! I had them safely tucked away; haven’t used one in like a dozen years, and never used a new one that’s even nicer! I also started an electronic journal. Exciting times!
