Picked up the Winter 2024.issue of Panzerschrek Magazine published by Minden Games. Deck of cards for reference to magazines size. I can't pass up a battle for Berlin game if at all possible. foto pic postLike almost all Minden games you mount the maps and counters contained in the magazine. This game is tactical with all units representing squads and individual Leader counters. Counters setup for the first of four scenarios. Germans top of pic.

Cool mechanic I will try and explain, it involves the last number which is for morale. You also need to know this game is diceless, you use a deck of cards minus jokers. Ok, for the Russian to move into and stay in the German ZOC it must draw a card, if it is equal to or lower then the morale number it stays the if not it moves back to the hex that was the last before the ZOC hex. So if you have committed a stack of two squads both may stay, both may need to move back or just one squad may stay, the squads are committed to battle before hand so you may attack with both or you may end up attacking with a single squad or no attack at all if both units are forced back. This is called the Hesitation Draw. Think of it as getting one squad across the street and the counter fire that is drawn causes the second squad to hesitate or take cover. The players aid card, contains most info needed to play the game. windows 7 screen shot

WOW, this is a cool looking game! I’ve never heard of this magazine, but I definitely had to look into it! …for those wondering, this is a Link to Minden Games’ site. Looks like it has some cool articles, too! Where did you find this issue? Have you bought others? On game assembly, I think I see staple holes on a side… where are the game materials (in the middle-ish of the magazine or at the end?) …did you need to take the staples out or carefully rip it out? I like the map artwork… kinda of the Squad Leader variety, so I could see a lot of DIY with the use of the HexDraw software, that can produce similar.

Counters and maps are more middle of the magazine. In this case the magazine is 100 pages and also contains a paper and pencil game on being in a life raft after your bomber is shot down over the Pacific, of course with the tables printed needed to play. Also included is play mats of two Italian submarines to expand Mindens U-Boat Commander game.
The magazine is not stapled together and are made up by Amazon as ordered, took 3 days to get it after ordering. I believe you can also download from Wargamers Vault I think it's called. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Minden games are all pretty easy games to play, I have two other Minden games " Der Tag" and "Over the Top" both WW1 games.
A gent by the name of Gary Graber designs the games.
As for the Gotterdammerung maps as you noticed very much a Squad Leader look to them. First thing that entered my mind when I saw them.

…I believe you can also download from Wargamers Vault I think it's called. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. WargamersVault is a goldmine for not only rulebooks, but also some cool games, as long as you don’t mind building your own Print ‘ Play games. You can generally save a ton of money.

Well, once again, I followed your path taken through the woods… I ordered a copy from Amazon and it just arrived (quick shipping!) Heaven;t opened it yet, as it’s currently on the kitchen counter, but after seeing this thread and your pics, it clicked that it must be the same as the RETRO rulebook I bought from Minden, so the map size makes more sense to me now.
I’m very excited to try the subject game, after seeing how much fun you had with it. I definitely plan to play around with my HexDraw program, if it still works, and see if I can generate some maps and design a few scenarios to use with the system… will of course share anything you’d care to get from my warped imagination!
One of the things that pushed me over the lien in buying it were some really nice articles, including the game 1914, which I believe is the game I picked up at an antique mall recently.
