Based on a series of video games I’ve never seen or played, I don’t know how much of a literal translation this board game is, but it looked cool as hell to me! I saw it as one of the recommendations from Danielle Stranding on facebook, in her daily run-up to Christmas. One player plays an Allied Sniper in WWII, against German players (1-3). There’s a solitaire boot to the game too, but it plays differently to the multiplayer game, and I want to play this with a few other people soon so, I decided to just run through the regular game playing both sides. There are no scenarios per se, so you as the Sniper, must seize two random objectives (determined by card draw) within 10 turns each objective (the turn track resets back to the top after the first objective is taken), with failure to do both within those 10 turns, you loose; or until you receive two wounds from a German attacker which kills you and you loose. For this game, I’ll use the Launch Facility board (there’s also a Sub Pen board on the reverse). I’ll make up the story line for this playing: Infiltrating a Top Secret German Launch Facility in the chaotic days of Summer 1943, I’m a Allied Sniper tasked with gathering intel on a fuel processing building (#9), and retrieving a new launch component from a railway car (#8) before it’s unloaded and tested. I enter from the Northeast sector (see White Arrow on map) of the facility, beneath a docked U-Boat dock. The mapboard is separated into Red, Yellow, White, and Black sectors; I can’t start in a sector that contains my two objectives, hence my start position of White or Yellow… I chose White as the path of least resistance versus the Germans’ positions. The plan is to swoop down for Objective #8 and the #9. The Germans are setup on pre-determined spaces every game.
Turn 1 had me entering via the White arrow and swinging immediately down the side of the board!

By Turn 2, I’ve made it down the right side of the facility, heading to Objective 9. I had to use a Tommy Gun to finish off a German soldier from Red Sector, who was healed by a medic, but didn’t survive my blasting them to Hell! By Turn 3, I made it to #9, but I was quickly being hemmed in. The smaller board you see just below, is a Hidden Board… the sniper uses this board with a dry erase marker to secretly plot his moves and any annotation notes, such as turns. Of course, you can’t see my Sniper on the game board map (below)… I’m hidden!

Turn 4, I zip into the next adjacent building space to my left, alerting all three German units breathing down my neck (see clear cubes denoting they heard a noise and are alerted)… …I put my sSniper figure on the Hidden Board so you can see what it looks like! These minis are amazing!!! The KickStarter it was made from made enough money to add a dark wash to the figures, which I could of course paint, but I think look fine by themeselves. …and open up with a Trench Gun, killing all three! That Loadout Card allows instant kills without having to draw tokens from the Shot Bag. The Germans respond by closing in around Building 9, blocking off exits (I can’t move onto thier space, so I am temporarily trapped! Each of the three Officers also deploy a new Soldier to a adjacent space next to them… they could do this because the Officers are all still in thier own colored Sectors.

Turn 5. So, there I was, stuck between a rock and a hard place, kneeling behind crates, when I spot what? A rock! With all the goons outside, I note an open window at the top right of the building and decide to throw a Hail Mary… time ti see if IU still have that college quarterback arm. Hurling the rock through with a perfect spiral worthy of praise from my old hard assed coach of years gone by, it sails off in the distance and as hoped, draws the goon at the door in front of me away!!! I stealthily slip out the door, towards the entrance to the first of three train cars…and take a shot at the Soldier adjacent to my position and score a kill! Unfortunately, the Germans are on to me… they don’t know where I am but, they’ve cleverly redeployed two soldiers next to the Officer (black) by the railroad cars, sealing me off from a direct run to the objective… other units move down. I’m where you see the clear cube for the moment, hidden…

Turn 6, I run for it, diving between the two forward most rail cars, take aim, and blast the Officer (black) near the objective car. The Germans try to seal me off from a path to the Objective train car (#8) as well as the storage building (#6 & 7), as they don’t know what my objective is.

Turn 7, I can’t move below the middle train car as I’m be trapped like a rat if I can’t shoot my way out! I unfortunately can only move and shoot once each so, it’s a calculated decision to move up and left around the top side of the middle train cat and talke a shot at the alerted Soldier inside the Objective car… scorin g a kill, thank goodness. The German outside the car however, can easily deduce that I am near and has the Officer redeploy a Soldier between the cars, blocking my way…means more shooting for me before I am hunted down and slaughtered! Meanwhile, the Soldier in my space tries to flush me out and attacks, dealing me a wound. Others try sealing me in best they can…

Next turn, I shoot first, killing the German goon at the entrance to the Objective rail car and zoom in gaining my second objective for the Win! I’m not sure that was as easy as it looked… I had phenomenal token draws killing just about anything I aimed at. Ther Trench gun helped early on by killing three Germans uncontested; a lucky distraction with that rock, and a Tommy Gun that just blasted a clear path for me mid-game. Token draw went in my favor the most, though! This game has a solo bot, which I’ll learn next… but this play gave me enough hands on play to be able to work others through play with me. Thanks for following along!

Looks like a good game, I loved the video PS2 game. I like it very much! …the minis are gorgeous!!! The game system is simple, yet challenging. I can’t wait to try the Solo Bot. I’m still trying to hunt down the expansion for the Eagle’s Nest.
