Tried a quick home brewed scenario of Close Assault, A man to man game of squad tactics and command. An old game I bought in the early 80's at the PX. The game was way over my head at the time. US squad comes under fire. Part of the German squad the Americans ran into. The little green squares tell you what stance the soldiers are in, here the LMG is "P"rone while the rifle man is "C"rouching. The first pic with the US squad all are prone, I had the status turned wrong.

WOW, thank you for posting this cool nibblet!!! …I’ve actually seen the cover of this game on Facebook’s game trading groups in the past and loved the cover art, and consequently, always meant to check the game out BGG… this is better, of course, ‘cause we get a view of the game in action!
It’s not that easy to find a game that’s this old, that has the graphics you’re seeing on the mapboard!!! I mean, jeez, the map art on this is pretty spectacular, don’t you agree? I think it rivals some of the best, modern produced game boards’ art. It reminds me a lot of the Compass Game’s “COMBAT!” Game map artwork. I’m not crazy about the coordinates at center hex, every hex, though… at least it’s somewhat subdued in light font.
The elephant in the room though, is that it models man-on-man! You just don’t see that, in my humble opinion… like the Rifle (RFL) representing a single man counter. I’m trying real hard here but, I can’t think of one board wargame where the each and every counter represents just one person…well DAMN, you really peaked my curiosity on this one!!!
I like the tracking counters, for prone and crouching, etc… good concept there. The counter graphics are neat, too…simple but effective. Do the support weapons (i.e., LMG) need a separate single man counter to “carry” it, or is it it’s own manned counter? The numbered counters is interesting, too…combined with the hex coordinates, I suppose this make s a great PbEM system.

Heading out the door, but to answer your question on crew served weapons. These are in the advanced rules booklet. Basic game only uses the LMG.

Close Assault is the ancestor of Firepower (Avalon Hill) and it has the roughly same ruleset. Weapons have the same data and are compatible with the data sheets in Firepower.

Oh, WOW… I did not know that! I bought Firepower as one of my very first wargames!!! …still have that one, but oddly, never played it, yet.
