So, many here know I’d been dealing with a bout of sciatica since April, and that’s never fun! I’ve had this before at least a couple times and it seemingly comes out of nowhere. Seeing my doctor’s office added a chiropractor to their staff, I figured, what the hell! …I’d seen one a couple decades back for a bulging disk and it was a decent experience that seemed to help, at least a little so, I figured it was worth a shot. Turns out, I’d progressed far enough on my own at that point that he “graduated” me right out the door, lol… but he did note muscle weakness and instability in my legs so, he sent a recommendation to my doctor for a referral to Physical Therapy.
This is where this picks up the story: I made an appointment with a local physical therapist office in town, and had my consult In-Take evaluation last week, and was surprised at not only the fact that what I thought was a situation of having healed with my sciatic nerve, was indeed false… it’s still injured and not happy, at least under the surface (in the background) if not in total pain all the time. But more incredibly, my weak leg strength is actually a lot worse than I thought! Seems being a remote employee at home since 2015, up until I retired a year and half ago, really did a number on my body strength… both lower and upper body.
I had my first PT appointment today where I worked on a leg machine and a bunch of stretching exercises, followed by the most glorious leg massage on that sciatic nerve side (had the same earlier last week), which really loosened up the nerve and muscles.
I honestly didn’t expect such amazing results and am very glad to have had the wherewithal to make these appointments. I go for six weeks, twice a week through early November. I’m really motivated to extend this to fully regaining the strength that I’d lost, and move forward to better health.
