Broke out the One Hour Skirmish Wargames rule book and tried out my 28mm figures I have had for awhile but never got onto the table. In this scenario it's Jan 1945 in the west. It's getting dark and it's snowing. An American patrol comes up to a clearing the Sargeant calls a halt as he tries to peer into the snow fall and coming darkness. On the opposite side of the clearing a German Sargeant is doing the exact same thing. He spreads his men out a little and strains to listen for any sounds that may indicate approaching enemy. In this scenario I used the variable visibility rules and started by drawing a Diamond, so 9 inches of visibility for drawing a Diamond. As a matter of fact for all 5 turns of the scenario I drew Diamonds! The Americans win(?) the first initiative and advance into the clearing with 2 becoming visible through the snow and gathering darkness. Two Volksgrenadiers take aim and fire..... The game ended after both sides lost half there soldiers and the survivors on both sides pulling back into the woods leaving both sides casualties laying in the snow of the clearing. It was an enjoyable scenario to play and took 45 minutes.

WOW, NICE!!! Those minis look great in-game (BOLT Action? …I can’t recall). That sounds like a real elegant system, and manageable from a play perspective; a game played in under an hour is a nice system!

Dec44, HQ needs to find out what's going on in the German camp, Sgt Barkers squad drew short straw. Mission, Raid the German camp and gather as much intelligence as possible. And grab a prisoner while you are over there. 2200 Hrs, partly cloudy on a full moon night, visibility changes often depending on cloud cover. Got the prisoner, now for the camp. Get over the hill before the moon comes out from behind the clouds.

As for time, as soon as you get the rules down it goes along as fast as you can flip cards.

The grand prize. Is that a map, representing the ‘gather enemy intelligence” part of the mission?

The grand prize. Is that a map, representing the ‘gather enemy intelligence” part of the mission? Yes it is, old map from a Verlinden sheet.
