Heinkel 219 in 1/48 by Tamiya

Here's a kit I had in my stash for about ten years and finished in 2022.
It's an excellent kit like all of the modern Tamiya kits are. The cockpit tub is metal and acts as the nose weight which is a fantastic touch. Fit is very good as is mould quality but...
Some of the national insignia decals are out of register and there are fine, white lines on the edges of the fuselage Balkenkreuz decals which really, is pretty poor for Tamiya. A great kit for beginners to build but not great for a beginner to paint. This paint job looks ok but a Luftwaffe night fighter nut will know it's not 100% accurate.
Built OOB and painted with Tamiya acrylics, Humbrol enamels and various oil paints.

Looks great. Just so I get this right, but Tamiya gives you the metal cockpit tub in the kit or is it an aftermarket part? Either way though that is a fantastic idea.

Metal cockpit tub comes with the kit. This is a standard thing for several od Tamiya's tricycle geared kits including their Mig 15 and their (sublime) P-38 Lightning kits, both of which I've built.

Suddenly tricycle aircraft kits are becoming more and more appealing to me, at least Tamiya's. No more tucking split shot sinkers into every cavity you can find and wondering if you have added enough.

That’s a sweet kit! I really love the look of night fighters… like a beast from the depths! As mentioned… love the airbrush work!
