Well got it setup finally, I did end up having some issues getting the counters cut out evenly, oh well. I will also be.including the rules that are different in it's newer edition remake Winter Thunder by Tiny Battle Publishing.

Dude, that looks AMAZING! If there are issues with the counters cut, I sure don’t see them! …the whole game looks awesome… I’ll be keeping my attentions to Amazon to see if it comes back in stock.
So did you end up buying Winter Thunder? I very much appreciate threads that compare two versions of the same game… I try to do that now and then, but it’s surprisingly hard so, mad props to you, buddy!

If you saw the counters a little closer you would see the differences, still not sure what happened as the frames were matched up perfectly, or so I thought. As for picking up Winter Thunder I am really on the fence. I have read the rules for both and have wrote out the defensive solo chart. The WT rules did clear up a couple questions I had and the rules that are different from AM can be worked in easily enough. I am very, very tempted to though.

Well, my will to resist collapsed and 5 minutes after saying "I'm on the Fence." I fell off said fence onto the side of ordering it. I do like the Autumn Mist map better though.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was telling Karen I was loving what you were showing and se ordered the Winter Thunder game for me yesterday!

Alright then, after playing Winter Thunder it's time to play the game that spawned it. A couple differences to start. AM has separate Engineer units that help with unbridged river crossings for units they are stacked with. AM has 3 step elite units. In Winter Thunder you can use Exploitation Movement to attack, not so with AM. That's all I can think of right now but have a feeling I'm missing one or two more.

Start of turn 2 finds the Americans in big trouble with 3 elite German Panzer Divisions on the loose in the center. The Americans do have reinforcements coming on board this turn from north and south map edges but only those from the north will be able to intercede (hopefully) this turn. The Germans will also have to move up at least 1 Corps HQ to keep the Panzer Divisions in supply. The big picture.

American reinforcements come down from the north and are trying to get ahead of the German spearhead. I do have to remove the 82nd Airborne 2-3 counter as that it's 3rd step replacement that got into the wrong stack, whoops.

I love threads/articles that do comparisons of games, especially like this thread where it’s basically the same game, but updated in a slightly different path. Thanks for that! On a side note while I’m thinking of it, I did search out Autumn almost and the boardgame version of that has so far been elusive! …maybe just as well, lol…but I like that each brings a slightly different take to game play. What I can’t figure out however, is which game I like more, hahaha.

I know what you mean about which one. I am pretty sure it will be either one of these for my Bulge Anniversary play this year. If I could combine the parts of each game into one I would take the Autumn Mist map and the Autumn Mist 3 step elite divisions. Combine those with the larger format of Winter Thunder. Winter Thunder also uses a single D10 where AM uses two D6. Step loses are markedly higher with a D10.
