Went to the movies today and saw “SISU”, starring Arnold Swartzenager. I really liked it! …reminded me of the good ‘ol days of Arnie bas-ass movies It had the feel of the pulp movies you see based on graphic novels, but I don’t see any references to that and am sure it’s an independent film. It’s hard to like a lot of the movies that are cranked out these days on WWII, but this is a big budget style movie with a big budget action star! Unlike a movie like John Wick, with non stop explosions and gun fire, this movie has a steady pace following a very pissed off dude! I won’t give any spoilers but, it’s a must see in my book!

Arnie? You sure that isn't Jorma Tommila? My friend sent me the trailer for this film and I replied "I have that exact knife in my kitchen", which I do. Traditional Lapp design. Looks interesting to me as a guy with more family in Finland than anywhere else. Still haven't seen it. The use of T55s to represent German tanks is gunna rankle. 😅

I liked the movie a lot… very pulp comic style, the likes of which you are seeing more and more these days. It’s not a movie in which you are looking for historical accuracy… it’s good old fashion carnage the likes of 1980’s action movies.

I've so far given this one a pass as I'm not a fan of unrealistic ultra violence movies. But it may still be good for a couple of laughs some day in the future for me. Who knows...

Yes, definitely Italy some core, like gassing a land mine like a frisbee at an enemy soldier. But it’s for elements that I like, something along the lines of the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns…and an underdog story, which always appeals to me.

Cynical me wondered if this movie isn't pro-Finnish propaganda in the context of their application to join NATO after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Until now, nobody really gave Finland a second look unless you had an interest in the Winter War or lakes.

Until now, nobody really gave Finland a second look unless you had an interest in the Winter War or lakes. Could be… I’m thinking, it was more a desire to project a dark, pulp, graphic novel style in a bleak wasteland; having an underdog lead character, who just happened to be a former commando badass fit the Finnish profile nicely… I don’t think it’d have near the impact had Arny been Russian.
