The bases do come with the figures, elongated base for prone figures also. Warlords must have messed around with a heroics scale as these 3 are a bit bulkier and taller, a bit upsetting to me. The officer fits in pretty well but the other two got me thinking of the tv series Combat and I'm going to have a Little John in my squad.

I noticed the high walls on those bases and thought it may be convenient to add terrain into it, it’s way too high for my tastes….especially where we’re talking 28mm! Yet, my DUST miniatures are 28mm and sit on high bases, so maybe it’s a *thing* at that scale.

The figure bases are sunk in so as to make up for the height of the base, plus the figures don't end up standing on a pitchers mound.

I like this figure, he gives me the chills. Time to start working on the snow on the base pretty quick.

…he looks Badass! Almost like the “What-if” games where WWII goes apocalyptic…I actually really like that genre …but to digress, yes, this is a very Winter dressed look. Which I’ve always found fascinating, probably because of my fascination with the Battle of the Bulge as a kid.

Trying some snow effect on some scatter terrain before the figure bases, need the snow thicker I think.

That looks pretty awesome! …the snow looks to me like crusted ice after a bit of a melt. I like the effect. It would look good with thicker snow, as well…I bought some real nice artificial snow from the model railroading terrain makes, which has been awesome in my model dioramas.
I wonder if you should consider muddying up the bottom the great coats… maybe a smudge of frost?

I wonder if you should consider muddying up the bottom the great coats… maybe a smudge of frost? I haven't gotten that far yet but yes I have been thinking about it. I just started with snow on the terrain piece to see how it would work before trying it on the figures. I'm new working snow so didn't want to start out by ruining my figures.

Totally get where you’re coming from, and agree For whatever it’s worth, the snow I used on the Russian snowcoach halftrack was sprinkled over watered down white glue, which worked great…yet when I tried adding that glue mixture to the snow on my Panther diorama last year, it yellowed …I attributed the final result to German shepherds with too much water drunk!

Re did the snow and added some dirt to the winter coats. Not the best birch tree but gets the idea across.

Those are awesome birch trees! …sets the mood nicely, too! The paint and terrain are awesome… I like that Wintery look.

Thanks Em. I have another piece of terrain in the works, I bought a cheap paint brush with light bristles at Dollar Tree yesterday for some long grass. I had some long grass from Woodland Scenics but I'll be darned if I can find it.

I like to by cheap Artist brushes at dollar and saver stores, for my modeling and diorama work…they work just fine! In fact, as an aside…when I started out in art school, fresh out of high school and pretty tapped of funds from tuition, I started with cheap Artist brushes and managed almost as well as with the finer brushes until I could afford them; and I mention this because I noted that today’s cheaper Artist brushes are much better quality than in the 80s.

Yup. They sell house painting brushes also along with artist brushes and you are right the quality has improved over time. I keep a couple packs hanging up in my war room along with the 6 pallets for a buck. I do have some more expensive brushes also, they do last years if taken care of properly, but you know this.
