I’m reposting below, a snippet from a reply I made to a new member, Ski, in the Intros zone. I was speaking towards an extremely head’s up point he made, on the similarities between model builders and miniatures builders…
I’ve talked to some folks about this several times in the past, on forums, and at both model shows and miniatures/wargaming events. Over and over, folks tell me they never really thought of this…but when you stop and think about what both hobbies strive for and ultimatum accomplish, they are truly Allied Hobbies…you can become better at each by paying attention to the other!
I’m a believer that they have more in common than not: building scale replicas, painting them, and dioramas are all similar and draw knowledge from one another; the materials uses, from glues to paint to putty, are commonalities; and the techniques in painting and landscaping are the same… just all in different scales. Much of what I am able to do with vehicles and figures in my miniatures Wargames, I learned from modelers and my modeling endeavors.
