I have to be honest here… I am having a real hard time justifying being a member of Facebook these days. I think about pulling the plug on deleting my account quite often.
I joined back when folks started migrating from a forum called Armchair General to one called World War Tw9 Zone. Culled over by several friends of the former, it was also suggested that I might want to join Facebook. It was my first experience with social media. I even tried Instagram and Pinterest, but only kept the latter of those two.
Facebook just gets my blood pressure raised more that it doesn’t. I’ve literally been attacked and objectified, which hasn’t happened since the schoolyard days. Much on there is a cesspool, and people are mean. It it only shows how far low society has dipped in moronic posts.
I'm struggling.
The only reason I’ve not bailed to this point is, the Groups. Most wargaming and model building groups are good, yet, they don’t come close to forums. it’s all Wham Bam Fuckyou Mame.
I just don’t know.

Facebook got better for me when I stopped following people who were annoying to me. Most of what I see there is my groups and a few people who still interest me.

I know what you mean, I have a love-hate relationship with FB. I agree, deleting those people who annoy me, has helped tremendously.

Politics is the express lane for getting off my friends list. People on both sides of the aisle do not seem to be able to keep it civil. I just went and purged my list (again) a couple weeks ago actually. I have more fb friends in the UK and Europe then I do in the states.

I just use Farcebook for a few modelling groups at the moment. My first account got banned due to Farcebook being humourless buggers that found one too many old picture joke that they deemed to be against their so called community standard. I've stopped completely with my posting of humourous photos/memes on my personal Farcebook wall and I don't check up on what shit my pals post on their wall. If it wasn't for the groups I'd pull the plug in an instant without regret and Mark Zukenshite can go 'n bugger himself with a pineapple for all that I care...

Thanks guys… that helped a lot, actually. Apparently, I need to cull my Friends list, as well; in all the years I’ve been on, I’ve only 86ed two people, lol… though I note I’ve been dropped by a good dozen or more over time. I try to nit talk politics or religion…the age old rule of the dinner table is more true than ever on FB! If it weren’t for the groups and a few friends I know I’d never see again (I’m not a big text or emailed), I’d likely have dropped off years ago! My wife refuses to join… smart woman, even despite her choice in men.

smart woman, even despite her choice in men. That proves that she's a raving loony considering her latest choice...

I don't think I've ever really fully embraced FB, when it first surged in popularity there seemed to be a race in who could muster the most on their friends list. Then I came up against all the people from my school days sending friend requests, most of whom I haven't seen since school. I found online forums more engaging, purely more for the fact that there was heaps of helpful material to learn, and people willing to help out... an open source library I guess. I'm tempted to deactivate my FB account, but it's only because of some groups that keep it going.

I feel the same way and have thought about just chucking fb out the window, however like you there are some groups I do value and old friendships.

I feel the same way and have thought about just chucking fb out the window, however like you there are some groups I do value and old friendships. I agree with both of you… at first, I really liked reconnecting with kids (now adults) whom I taught in drum and bugle corps through the decades; oddly, most of the school chums ended up proving why I didn’t remain fr8wnds with the, in the frost place, hahaha, though there are some excellent people I have really reformed friendships with, so that’s a plus for FB. But it’s really the groups that keep me handcuffed there… it seems I, constantly learning about a new game, or ways to play games I own that I didn’t realize, or new models coming out and techniques. There’s also the events that I would know of occurring schedules without it… seems everyone uses FB to post these happenings! And lastly, almost all game companies have discontinue or online forums in favor of FB, which I’m sure because it’s free for them! It’s just pure f*ing Evil!

I'm not found of Farcebook but the groups is useful but they can't replace a good old fashioned forum. What bothers me the most with Farcebook (apart from their hipocricy) is that it breeds idiots with short attention spans. The world has gone south and Farcebook have played a huge role in that...
