The second scenario is similar to the first mission… Recon: U.S. Army “Green Berets” warriors of the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), better known by their nickname, “The Legion” are deployed in country, Vietnam, on a reconnaissance mission far behind enemy lines. Sent out to scout, and determine enemy strength and positions, the Legionaries infiltrate a critical area that represents one of several, potential operational trouble spots. The mission of stealth is lead by Captain “Dix” Dixon (red), leading three Weapons Sargeants: “Coop” Cooper (white), “Enzo” Edleman (blue), and “Ziggy” Zigarelli (Yellow)… The colors denoted above correlate to ring markers that sit around their bases to help keep track of who’s who; I have no idea what the plastic rings were from or went to…I found them in the basement of treasures! This is the battle map…  As a reminder, this is based on, and uses maps a most of the rules from Mike Lambo’s, “Ghosts of the Jungle”. I never did make road tiles yet, but today I had the epiphany that I can use the book map to know where the roads are, same as I use them to know the Viet Cong set-up tiles!  I may still make those road tiles at some point, but there would be a lot to make! Force set-up…  |

The mission started with Captain Dixon infiltrating on the far right flank with Coop and Ziggy, Enzo to their far left. Dix took the lead and made an advance up center, with Coop and the Zigman not far behind. As you can see, there’s a lot of rocky hill terrain, which is impassable, so care must be taken with navigation: yet, the open ground between the rock formation at center and the rock formation to the left causes a bit of a bottleneck… to get through, you’d need to hustle (meaning, at least two move actions rolled, which is nit as easy as it sounds!), and you can get hung up behind them for awhile, trying to stay hidden too boot! Enzo ducks for cover in the start area, as do the others hiding in their jungle areas. The Viet Cong meanwhile, start to advance through the jungles themselves, including a fourth soldier reinforcing.  Action continued with the Legion making their way under cover, maintaining a slow pace due to stealth. Viet Cong continue to edge around the forward area. Ziggy (yellow) finds himself out in the open, wishing he could dive into that hut! VC are unawares, but keep up a scattered patrol.  The Viet Cong get yet another reinforcement (this is far different than my previous two game plays, which didn’t have many reinforcements due to VC bad rolls. Dix advances way ahead, jumping in cover, while his mean inch forward   Meanwhile, the Charlie gets yet another reinforcement!  |

Captain Dixon is the first to make it to the exfil row (top of map). Ziggy (yellow) makes great progress up the map, but is surrounded by VC… it’s a slog for the three Sarges… and yes, another Charlie reinforcement comes into the fray!    Ziggy finds himself next to two VC in one tile and (rolling a lucky doubles’p) chucked a grenade, taking out both!  ByeBye! One VC activates doe to the blast, but Ziggy gets to retain his hidden status!  Super slow crawl for the Legion truing to get to the exfil zone (as is typical in this game).  |

Ziggy and Coop make it to the exfil row and hides in the jungle; Enzo is trying to get there but is hung up; some VC have moved past, unawares that the Legion has been in the area.  Enzo creeps forward!  Enzo is hung up, VC beating the bushes and covering ground in a scattered search.  At this point, Enzo has a big decision… he decides his chance are good to move up into the open, for a dash to the end hopefully on the next turn;  |

…it was a risky move, and Zig gets a built in the butt , to which he’ll get a ration of shit over from the guys, but he was able to shoot the offender!  I love these Wound markers… each Green Beret starts with three health points; loose all three and he’s dead.  And our fourth Green Beret makes it to the exfil row! Americans win!   |
