This is a cool method for making a diorama base for your model! Done by a modeler with the handle, losboz, he started with a simple picture frame, kinda chunky but with fake sides/top and rounded corners. He then used Plasticard to build up sides that would surround a Styrofoam insert; the walls were roughly offset in order to give a bit of a slope to the forthcoming groundwork. All that was skunked into the inner frame recess. Finally, some Daler Rowney texture paste was placed on top of the foam and flush even with the sides of the Plasicard edges…make sure to leave room! He then cut up a long grass mat from Treemendus…not sure what that is, as when I Googled it, I come up with door mats, but a few I saw kinda look like what he achieved... he trimmed various sections so the longest grasses would be around the hull. As an aside, he used an older Tamiya Panther to mark out how low she would sit in the groundworks. This is the final result, which I think is just gorgeous! I plan to try this method out myself!

As I think more on this, as much as I like the frame idea, I’m thinking you could mount the Plastcard and all, on top of a plaque. Something to consider if you can’t find the right frame.
