My basement is basically split in two lengthwise, where one side is a furnace/laundry/storage room with a hobby workshop; the other side is a finished basement room that I use for my Game Room (a.k.a., ManCave).
As for this Game Room, its a pretty nice space overall, but the lighting isn’t the best, and needs some upgrades. Basically, there are two 3-light light bars in the center of the room on either side of an enclosed heating/ac duct, and they give minimal light. There is a window, so at least it gets outdoor light from ground level outside.
There’s been a few setbacks over the years: When we bought the house in June 2005, we immediately experienced major flooding in that part of the basement, due to a high water table, and had to have a French Drain and sump pump installed…it’s worked a charm ever since. But over the past year or so, we had two water events, where one was a burst water pipe in the ceiling (no causing bad damage to the drop ceiling), and then my well’s water tank malfunctioned and spring a huge leak. Both issues were fixed. We also had issues after having the concrete floor painted and epoxied, where all the floor peeled up almost entirely! I need to figure out something better.
What those two recent water events and the peeling floor did was, cause a pileup of games and equipment to the center of the room, and now, the need to move everything to proper spots… this includes many new games bought, needing new shelf space. I’ve been adding bookshelves, but these units are expensive!
The pictures below aren’t recent, but pretty close to what things look like. They were taken right after the ceiling water pipe issue…
I also have an Art Nook that needs some love…
Now that the cold weather is here, it’s a good time to start the renovations!
