It's been in a box for awhile, digging around in my spares box I found I had the parts to replace the ones lost or damaged. Just some paint touchups and some weathering and it will be ready for the shelf again. The model itself is Tamiya's Panzer IV J, the Zimmerit is from Cavalier and is resin that worked pretty good, at least I don't have any memory of it being difficult to apply.

Ahhhh, she’s a sweet girl! A fav subject of mine. I love the open entry and access, which I think brings an AFV to life, as my imagination runs wild with wanting ti jump in, or what’s the crew up to and such. A static display can be too static… little touches like that make the build so much more “real” life.
The Zim is cool… I’ve never tried doing it myself. I still remember Nick doing it with putty and a flat head screwdriver!!! Yikes. I can juuuuust see the mud on the tracks, which is superb. The paint is amazing, mostly too because I know you’re not an airbrush guy…that’s not easy to achieve by hand brushing.

I like to open them up for the reasons you state Em. Also a favorite subject of mine especially the H and J variants. As for zimmerit I wish the Germans had never invented the stuff! I have tried doing zim myself with putty and a screwdriver and have never been happy with the results.

I have gone out of my way to avoid zimmerit… great looking, but trying to get it right scratchbuilding is way beyond my level of skill. I’ve been seeing premolded versions that look amazing, though. And beyond getting the stuff on your model… OmG, the painting and weathering!?! Yikes!
