Those games… that’s where Mike comes in! Konigsberg: The Soviet Attack on East Prussia, 1945Celles: The Ardennes, December 23/27, 1944…seeing his AARs for these was all I needed to see how cool these two games above are. Admittedly, East Prussia 1945 is not in my wheelhouse of knowledge, but his play intrigued me and looking into the battle really set the hook! And of course, I am always down for Battle of the Bulge action, so Celles was a no-brained. The next game was my attempt to keep the price reasonable… I was looking 5 the Narva game but it pushed thr $c a little too high for this go$round… Patton's Vanguard: The Battle of Arracourt, 1944Arracourt is a favorite battle subject for me, and this one is a cool take on it. Looks a little more like an area movement game? …I’m so used to hex maps that this is a good way to nudge me out of my comfort zone.

Excellent choices Em! And Patton's Vanguard is almost sure to be next on my list. I like area movement games, I have Mike Rinella's game on Cambrai and like it very much.

I remember when I first saw Celles on Amazon, I was a little reluctant to buy it as I was still really deep into WW1 games but then I thought "It's so cheap how can I go wrong, even if I don't like it I will only be out less then 30 bucks for a full blown war game. Well, little did I know what a great game it was, imo anyway, and such a cool system even for solitaire! And as most here know Celles lead me to Across the Narva and then Konigsberg. Celles I knew the most about, Across the Narva and the battle for Estonia I knew the least and as for Konigsberg and the battle for East Prussia I knew a bit more then Narva. It's been a few good months of learning new details, whether through game play itself or reading up on these battles in books or online. My oh my what great solo gaming I have had! Love it!

The box just came tonight and I’m anxious to get going with these!!! It’s an interesting coincidence that I was spending a good part of last week digging around my wargame stash for all my ziplock and magazine games, to keep them all together… they were lites All over the place! Most weren’t in ziplocks and I was pleased that they were all in Mint to Near Mint shape; I bought a stock of about 100 large heavy mil ziplock bags (the size Lock ‘N Load Publishing uses)and all games are now sealed and protected. I plan to get some of those shelf magazine holders that stand up. Anyway, all three games came in ziplocks, though I didn’t look much past the bubble wrap On area movement games, I guess the closest I’ve played are RISK, Axis & Allies, and the MB Master games series, so was somewhat familiar with the concept. A lot of the DVG games I own are area movement, so, I was underestimating my experience with them… I’m sure I’ll love it. The artwork on th Patton game, alone, is worth the price! I remember when I first saw Celles on Amazon, I was a little reluctant to buy it as I was still really deep into WW1 games but then I thought "It's so cheap how can I go wrong, even if I don't like it I will only be out less then 30 bucks for a full blown war game. Boy, I so agree on these being super low price for a full wargame… you almost couldn’t go wrong, but the happy side of that is, they are great Wargames. Revolution Games doesn’t have a ton of games in their inventory, but they are building nicely and steadily; this size company not being unusual, either, as is evidence in White Dog Games and Tiny Battle Publishing to name two. It’s often these smaller companies that defy the odds by being very capable of bringing great games to us, without a shit-ton of overhead getting in the way! Great points on the history knowledge aspect… I’m likely just a bit behind you in Narva and Konigsberg, not really having read anything on either, and only a possibility of having seen Konigsberg in a documentary. I was in a bit of a loosing argument on Facebook, where someone was just not open minded whatsoever on Wargames having side value in not only learning opportunities in military (and economic, societal, ethical, etc.) history, but also in living in the moment of that history — he wasn’t having any of it! …but personally, I get so much out of wargaming in just what you mentioned, of reading up on the game subject, and watching documentaries and such; which I can also say about building models and dioramas! Wrapping uo my thoughts here, these are definitely on my short list of games to play. I’m playtesting ASLSK scenarios for a soon to be released second pack of scenarios to be sold by the New England Voluteers (ASLSK group). And I want to get The Long Road uo and running between Scott and me. I gotta finish up my Vietnam miniatures for Ghosts in the Jungle, as well… and I finally got my Stargate SG-1 resin minis from Finland this week, as well! I always knew I’d have no problem retiring!
