Experimental Aircraft Association has a massive fly in every August at Whitman Field in Oshkosh WI. I have always wanted to go and this year my nephew and his family invited me to tag along with them. Pictured is yours truly standing by Paul I, a P51D Mustang that greeted us on arrival to the grounds. Just a fantastic day.

WOW! I had the pleasure of going there with my brother-in-law several years ago — he and my sister live outside of Milwaukee — and it truly is a phenomenal place to visit. They didn’t have near the planes you showed the day I went, but it’s super impressive anytime of year. The EAA is a wonderful organization and place to visit!
I glad you had a chance to go and see such amazing birds. Great photos, and you look great, my friend!
Walking on the grass airfield was magical to me when I went… you really could feel the vibe of biplanes landing back in the early 1900’s. The hangers are amazing! Love the whole place. I had an EAA tee for the longest time and wore the damned thing out, the trip was so memorable. Anyone that gets a chance to go, it’s a must for any military history or aviation buff!!!

P51 Mustangs were well represented. To see them lined up like this on a grass field was like taking a trip back through time.

I always think what a labor of love it is maintaining, and even more so the bringing back to life these prestigious and glorious warbirds. It’s mind boggling when you think of the numbers which existed back in the war years, that now some 80 years later, only a small percentage still exist that are still flying.

If you love warbirds EAA Fly in is definitely a bucket list trip. Heck, any type of airplane you can imagine, you may even find a new favorite! Of course I now realize it is hard to jam everything into 1 day.

Sprit of St Louis replica. The real one is in the Smithsonian. Thank goodness, we as a nation are smart enough to try and preserve much of our history. This plane is so icon, and just looking at it makes one winder in amazement at what courage it took to do remarkable things in what is now primitive technology. Hmmm, now I want to watch the Jimmy Stewart flick again!
