Welcome to chapter 3 of my Ghosts in Mexico campaign, using homebrewed rules. Previously, the Ghosts were sent to Mexico to neutralize a Nicaraguan paramilitary group that had stolen a U.S. communication asset called Guardrail IX. This group had sold the asset to Mexican special forces that now seem to have a connection to Mexican rebels attempting to conduct a coup. The U.S. president happened to be meeting with the Mexican president in Mexico City, and both were kidnapped by the rebels. The Ghosts were barely able to get them out. Now the Mexican president has been captured again, and it's up to a backup team of Ghosts to save him this time.

My team of six Ghosts entered the northeastern edge of the Zona Rosa neighborhood, which tripped a contact marker in the southeast part of the table.
I had the Ghosts rush past a wooded area to get into cover on their way to the main road, where they would get into position for an ambush of a convoy carrying the president.
That was foolish of me. Before they reached cover, the contact marker resolved as a three-man team of rebels with a machine gun some distance away, beyond the main street. My SAW gunner was able to fire first, taking their gunner out before he could fire, and suppressing one of the other rebels.
The third rebel got into cover behind a truck and shot my SAW gunner, severely wounding him. He also fired at my team's leader, suppressing him.
The suppressed rebel rallied and went around the other side of the truck. He shot another guy on my team and killed him. One of my guys returned fire and took him down. My team looked over their shoulders and saw their team leader was gone. He ran away!
That ended turn 1, and it could hardly have gone worse. I took down two of the three rebels, but they did some good distance shooting and took out just as many of my guys before I got them into cover. Even if my team's leader had stayed put, they wouldn't be able to continue the mission. I'll have to try this again and see if I can do better!
