This was an interesting tutorial for me, as it talks about something I had no idea existed: Contrast Paints. These are super watery acrylics that are very similar to a wash, but with colors that place a very thin layer of paint that is quite translucent and have a lower viscosity than acrylics. With contrast paints, you you’re layering colors atop the highs, but it sinks into the crannies like a wash. In the video. Contrast paints starts about 9 minutes in,
But the first part of the video is interesting, too… it talks about drybrushing, highlighting, and washes, all of which are the realm of the more experienced painter. Alternatively, contrast paints may be a better way to go for beginning miniatures painters.
