I read through the rules, and now Congo Merc is on my table! It will take me a while to understand how to play. When I start to get it, I think I might write up a play by play. This game looks really fun and right up my alley. screenshot app

Looks good! Uses the Commando rules as does Merrill's Marauders. If you get stuck perhaps I could help you out. Enjoy!

I tried this game out, and it was kind of weird. Definitely not like any game I've played before. The rules aren't long, but there's a lot to remember. I think I might enjoy this game once I have a better handle on the rules. I hope so, because I really want to like it.

I think I might enjoy this game once I have a better handle on the rules. I hope so, because I really want to like it. I’ve run into this before… it can be disheartening in a way, ‘cause it can be tempting to abandon the game and move into something else, and then it’s hard to get it back on the table. I’m happy to say that the times this has happened, I’d managed to indeed get it back on the table after really buckling down with the rules and it turns back into that game I’d hoped for. One of the things I’d noted that helped me was, giving the game a good deal of play time… it doesn’t matter if the game was played *right*, only that it was played. That was a very hard lesson for me to learn, as I get a bit perfectionist in wanting to play the game right the first time. What helped me was watching a friend who plays a TON of games, reading the rules in a glance through and just going for it. I still can’t wrap my head around that but, it’s a lesson I take to heart and aspire to try.

Still, I felt like I was missing stuff, and it bothered me. And I kind of was missing stuff. Fortunately, Decision Games has a YouTube site where they explain their games IN EXPLICIT DETAIL, almost too much detail, like you're a baby. I watched their Congo Merc video and saw what I did right and what I missed. I feel much better about my next try! I do plan to post a play-by-play before too long.

One of many things I like about this game is the way it handles combat. When opposing forces appear, you line them up and line up your own teams across from them, and it's like a tiny card-and-dice game in the middle of the map, similar to the card game I worked on in the past year. It's like a little mini-game within the game, and I love stuff like that.

It’s a wonderful way of conducting combat when you have multiple units fighting.
