Miniatures come in several makes, to include metal, resin, and plastic. Each has its own benefits in use, varying costs to make, and even selection at particular sizes. Vote for your preference(s) and why!

I went with plastic mainly because that is what Wargames Atlantic does there figures in, supposed to be a high impact plastic but still, those bayonets are mighty slim. I have had an incident or two with them and nothing has broken so far. And I'm basing on zinc fender washers for extra weight in the base so a bit harder to knock over. At around $1.00 per figure, multi pose and 30 or so per box they are hard to beat. If you are into 28mm you owe it to yourself to take a look, they also have a forum at their site. The figures are manufactured here in the US but they have warehouses in the UK and Australia so for those parts of the world postage won't kill you. I do have some Warlords (I think) in metal and they are smaller than the WA 28's.

I've only ordered one plastic miniature, and it looks ok, but I much prefer metal for its weight. It just feels like something substantial. I do plan to order some 3D-printed miniatures this year, but only because the miniatures I want don't come in metal.

I have built 4 GHQ micronauts in 1/2400 scale and I see the 3D-print folks are doing ships now, they look pretty good even though the turrets and gun barrels are molded and are one with the deck, still they are cheaper then their pewter cousins from GHQ.

I love the SpaceNam stuff! …apparently, near as I can figure, used with Warhammer 40K; but the stuff I was reading said they work well with a lot of 28mm systems, though I fail to see how, with such specialized weapons. I've only ordered one plastic miniature, and it looks ok, but I much prefer metal for its weight. It just feels like something substantial. The majority of my miniatures are in plastic, but I totally agree with your point that metal feels “weightier”! There’s something beautifully Old School about metal minis, too…though stay the hell away from lead! I just got some off of Etsy, which are 28mm Stargate SG-1’s series’ Goa’uld lHawk Guards”, and I gotta say, not only are the sculpts wonderfully rendered, but the resin is rock solid! I’ve not looked at them close enough to determine if they have noticeable mold lines, but I didn’t see any… since these aren’t really mold-built, I’m thinking they are super clean of such manufacturing issues like you see in many minis. I think they would be super durable over time in handling… paint. I don’t know.

Oh, by the way… I selected Plastic and Metal initially, ‘cause they make up the bulk of my collections; but I added Resin in there, as I own a bunch of early Flames of War miniatures with resin hulls, and I adore the weightiness of them, but I’ve also just got some 3-D printed figures in resin and they’re gorgeous!
