The invasion is on! Pretty sure I have a good grasp of the rules now after pushing some counters around. So a quick reset and here I go again. Pretty unopposed and bloodless invasion to start with. As a matter of fact the only casualties was to the German garrison at the town of Salerno itself where Commonwealth Commandos eliminated the garrison.

End of turn 1 and the second wave has landed. Salerno and an airfield have been captured. Commonwealth Commandos secure Salerno while Darby's Rangers secure the mountain pass.

Is this a mounted map?

No, paper map under plexi. Paper is a little on the light side to be honest. I think you can get a mounted map for this game but that doesn't interest me

I think you can get a mounted map for this game but that doesn't interest me I’m finding most paper maps these days are a bit flimsy… maybe trying to reduce costs with printers? I pretty much use plexi all the time now. Was curious on this game…I have a query dibs out for a copy of the game, which includes the hard mounted map at a decent price lower than Amazon, but no free shipping so, the only way it makes it worth it, especially being open but excellent shape, is the hard map inclusion. We’ll see if it works out… haven’t heard back from the seller with a shipping estimate yet.

Shipping costs these days can bring a tear to your eyes that for sure.

Shipping costs these days can bring a tear to your eyes that for sure. Well, he accepted my bid and I paid on PayPal… haven’t heard from him, but it is the weekend. As with all private sales, even on facebook COSIMARKET and such, it’s a roll of the dice. At least PayPal gives a modicum of protection. Watching you play the game, and the great pics you’re providing really sold me on the game. I’d been watching it in my Amazon Wishlist…I saw it drop to maybe close to what you paid, but ti went right back up to the retail the next day and stayed there. Whereas I generally prefer new in shrink if I can, a used copy can do in a pinch, and the added hardback map was a plus. I’ve bought about five games in the past couple weeks, lol. Considering I buy a lot of games when I go to Compass Games Expo in Connecticut, and I didn’t go this past May, I definitely saved a ton and gained a few games still.

Allied Combat Phase of turn 4 coming up. The Allied Forces on the main invasion beaches are doing well driving the Germans off the beaches. However this pushes the Germans into good defensive terrain, x2 to the defense. Until the Germans were pushed back over the past 3 turns I ended up having to keep some of the weaker Allied units back to protect the beachheads and the artillery units from blitz attacks on them by lone German units still in the area. To the north it's a little different story, after 3 days of relatively light resistance Darby Rangers and the Commonwealth Commandos progressed out of the pass to within two hexes of the Germans north entry zones just to be pushed back three hexes back to the pass by strong German units counter attacking from the north.

Hi Em. Hope you heard back from the seller by now. Sorry, it’s been crazy with the leg, veins work I’ve been having done these past weeks… I had heard back and the sale went through, and just got it over the weekend! The game is in great condition, with the hardbacked mounted board included; the counters were all punched, but in a small Plano snap lid box… I’ll inventory it of course, but I don’t suspect anything missing. I’m very excited to add this to the collection, after seein g your play of the game and your reports that you like it. …it dawned on me that maybe this is part of a series? I have Ardennes ‘44, and I’ve noted several games that are similarly names for different battles of a certain year so, I’ll have to look into this. And of course, I was super excited to hear you mention a couple potential map extensions for this!

Glad it all worked out for you! And yes, they all are part of a series of games.

My third game, turn 4. I've been playing the short 8 turn scenarios. This landing didn't go as well for the Allies with most units only able to land on the beachheads with no extra hex advance. Darby's Rangers are having an especially hard time of it being driven back down the Chinuzi Pass towards their landing beaches. I ended up sending two armor units in to help both the Rangers and the Commonwealth Commandos. Now the situation is deadlocked. The Allies still need 2 more Victory Point locations to win. Slow going this time around. The poor landings didn't help.

Sign of a great game, when results differ so widely game to game! I’m really looking forward to playing this one!!!

I’m really looking forward to playing this one!!! I took this down 3 days ago and I'm thinking of setting it up again. I like the smaller map and lower counter count, tactical movement is a cool rule, as long as it's your movement turn you can move any unit capable two hexes, no worries about movement cost, as long as a legal move just advance 2 hexes. Adds a little speed to play. There are some twists and turns to the rules but not to bad. I watched Stuka Joe do a playthrough last night and was happy to see I was indeed playing it correctly.😄 I think I caught him making a mistake on counting combat factors. 😄

I’ve seen it featured a few times now, on the wargaming groups on Facebook, so I know it’s popular. It’s really a cool looking game.
