Ok, Mission 2: Recon the Villages. The only enemy not setup by dice roll is the 2 "?" in each village. You roll for 2 LZ's "white beads." Then you roll for any enemies in all adjacent jungle hexes. Then you choose which LZ you will start from. The EZ or Extraction Zone counter is on the other side of the map. Downward pointing numbered hexes are LZ, upward pointing EZ. There are a lot of potential enemy units on the map but the team only needs to reveal the "?" marks in the two villages. Also I say potential because with each "?" there maybe something there but chances are 50/50 there is nothing there.

The dice along the top are used for placement of "?" during setup, the scenario gives you a certain number of possible enemies to greet you to the jungle. Roll one D6 and match with the same number across the top, roll one more D6 and count down that number of hexes and place the "?".

The numbered hex on the left side is for movement of either "?", unalerted NVA and unalerted VC.

The Alerted VC and NVA always move towards the LRRP team in a certain order depending on the terrain it is in, this helps you plant your Claymores.

Cool! That’s a lot of “?”s on your LZ side of the river! …it’s gonna be a challenge to get over either of those bridges. How does the +1 work on the top red die? Very cool looking game, and I can already tell this is well plotted out in mechanics. Any plans to get this book spiral bound? …I can imagine it would cost significantly more for Lambo to produced these as spiral bound, so I get it.

Lot of "?" but you only need to activate the 2 in the village. It's still alot but hopefully I can avoid a few of them and there is still a 50/50 of no enemy being spotted even to flip one.The +1 on the die just means to add a hex to your roll,so if a 5 is rolled you would count 6, don't know why but that's what that means.

Right now I plan to work my way towards the top village and comeback down for the other village, hopefully the other (?) marks have moved on by then. Only the 2 in the village don't move.

Night turn day 1. Team worked it's way up the side of the map. A cautious move into the jungle and a safe river crossings, replenished water supply.End of turn phase has a ? counter placed, Unit is unaware of the teams presence.

Late afternoon day 2. The reinforcement counter from last turn was VC and it spotted team but team plays a successful overwatch taking out VC counter. Team then moved to top of map, this time Robins runs into the snake. Recon of village turns up NVA 6 unit. Team is hiding inside jungle but is still spotted, team uses one more overwatch pinning the NVA. One village checked out, one to go.

Hey, that’s pretty neat stuff! So, you can make river crossings…cool… I was figuring you had to use a bridge, hence thinking it was gonna b a lot tougher to advance up the map. Nice action, and I like the things you DOI n’t normally see in wargames, like snake bites!!!

Yes, you can cross the river without a bridge but not without possible consequences, crocodiles and.fast water may await you.

Ran into Vietnamese civilians. Hearts and Minds roll says they're friendly.

After the civilians moved on, an NVA unit comes into the road, makes you wonder about those friendly's. Team was spotted but again an overwatch hits, pinning the NVA unit.

Team moves down and recons the village and reveals another NVA unit in the village. (White bead) Mission accomplished. Time to head for the extraction site, moving back up the trail team takes cover in the jungle and will wait for night.

The teams presence has the NVA throw up a check point, upper left, which is no concern as the team moves up the road to the waiting Huey.

Cool, on all counts! Crocodiles! …I’ve never played a game where that was even remotely a possible run-in!!! I like that Civie check…and yeah, seems like they may have at least pointed a finger or two, hahaha. I bet they can hear the Huey blades… they still need to make it on it on a roll or something?

Yup, you can just see the 6 roll there. Sounds like you have been looking a little deeper into this game.

AH, hem <<cough cough>> ….errrr, maybe?!? Yeah   …I’m intrigued with the mechanics, which approach more of what I’d initially wished for in his Jungles book; and what led me to do my The Legion variant, and I’m a big believer in not reinventing the wheel. On the other hand, I like this one offers on its own, as is, too …so it’s a potential twofer for me. You sure can’t beat the price of his books on top of everything else mentioned!!!

Recon the River Valley, the NVA dogged me and dogged me unmercifully. Three NVA 8 units, which can only be pinned and not eliminated except for an airstrike, backed me right up to the maps edge and destroyed the team.
