This year at EAA Airventure I spent awhile wandering around the many Corsair's that were there. Big, impressive machines and felt like I had to build one to commemorate the day.

And here it is, an SMER reboxing of the old 197?'s Heller kit. SMER spiffied up the kit with a small PE fret that includes pilot seat and instrument panel among other bits and bobs. A surprisingly nice fitting and flash free kit that only really suffered from the builder. I don't want to talk about that though. 😂

Oh, man, what Urban said! What’s not to love!!! This still remains my favorite prop fighter and I’m jealous as hell you saw slime up close and personal like! I gotta get back to the EAA! I’m planning to visit my sister and brother in law next Summer so, maybe I can plot out a visit that coincides! Anyway, I love this bird…such a beauty. And I will admit freely, this is MUCH better done than the kit I build in the 70s…probably a Revell kit.

Knowing you, I know how you painted it and trust me… I doubt anyone would guess in a million years that this is not airbrushed. Your hand painting skills are amazing! Great colors and tones, and she looks weathered just enough to take off the factory look and put some glorious stank on her! (I love a good stanky girl, but that’s another topic entirely).

Brush painted is right,you know me well! Walthers RR chalks did a lot of the weathering on this one. I haven't used my chalks in a while, other then black and rust.
